The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score

McDonald’s No. 18899, 7808 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 28. Improper cold-hold temperature. Wash hands before glove use and in between glove changes. Wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods. Walk-in not holding at 41 degrees. Address problem with presence of flies. Use a licensed pest control only. Store the ice scoop on a clean, sanitized surface. Four facility or equipment violations.

China Inn, 3602 E. Houston Highway, Victoria. Demerits: 26. Improper cold-hold temperature. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Cover all food in the walk-in coolers. Store raw meat below cooked foods and produce. Label spray bottles. Clean and sanitize cutting boards and dishes. Use food-grade storage bags. Clean the ice machine. Cover the trash can in the women’s restroom. Three facility or equipment violations.

Century Lanes, 3401 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 20. Work on covering all food in refrigerators. Work on date-labeling food in refrigerators. Label container with soap. Wash, rinse and sanitize all dishes. Shelves in refrigerator need to be replaced due to rust and paint falling on containers of food. Clean the dish rack. Re-wash the dishes that have debris on them. Need to post a permit. Store paper goods at least 6 inches off the floor. Four facility or equipment violations.

Dollar General Store No. 12393, Bloomington. Demerits: 13. Dispose of expired medications kept behind the counter. Keep paper towels in men’s restroom. Need a larger dumpster. Do not store excess cardboard and trash in back storage area. It promotes insect and rodent infestation. Need thermometers in coolers. Replace missing ceiling tiles in restroom. Clean up the spilled dog and cat food. Three facility or equipment violations.

Indianola Fishing Marina, 8 Bell St., Indianola. Demerits: 13. Improper cold-hold temperature. Wash hands at hand washing sink, not at the three-compartment sink. Wash hands and wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat food. Food handlers need to wear hair restraints.

Rocky’s Noodle House, 424 S. Main St., Seadrift. Demerits: 10. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Store below or away from food preparation surfaces. Use three steps to wash dishes. Cervantes Restaurant, 318 Front St., Yoakum, inspected Sept. 29 with 19 demerits. Re-inspected Oct. 28 with improper cold-hold violation. Cannot use to hold potentially hazardous foods. Leak has been repaired.
